Memorial Union Terrace buzzed with energy last Friday evening as some 3,000 people packed into the lakeside hangout for the first night of the Isthmus Jazz Fest line-up on Friday night opened with the Patrick Breiner Trio, continued with Gerri DiMaggio & Friends and New Breed Quintet, and closed with a late-night set by the Madison Jazz Orchestra.
"Madison has a lot of different outlets for jazz," notes festival student coordinator Kristine Rominski. "People seem to just come together to try to hear just what everyone else is doing, and how they can take that away and use it in their own performances."
Rominski shares more of her thoughts in the following soundslide recap of the evening.
