Get a taste of Wisconsin's Swiss yodeling tradition (video)

The best way to experience yodeling is in person, at events like this weekend's New Glarus Music Fest. The traditional Swiss singing tradition lives on in southern Wisconsin, particularly in Green County's yodel clubs and other choral ensembles.

Online videos provide a way to sample this distinctive singing for those who can't listen in person, though. Meet several local yodelers, plus a few Swiss singers, in this collection of videos from New Glarus and beyond.

Join a yodeling lesson at the New Glarus Hotel.

Watch Wisconsin yodeling sensation Tony Zgraggen wow the crowd at the Swiss Center of North America.

Watch the UW Concert Choir learn how to yodel on a 2009 trip.

Watch Madison country-western singers KG & The Ranger demonstrate cowboy yodeling in this video shot at a music festival in Australia.

Finally, listen to yodeling robots, ghosts and cowboys, plus the amazing Batman yodel, on the Yodel in Hi-Fi Top 50 playlist created by Bart Plantenga.
