The rhesus macaque labeled 'r04040' was born on April 26, 2004 and euthanized April 28, 2010. The study at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center at the UW-Madison that claimed the monkey's life probed a new approach to using a protein believed to have therapeutic value in treating Parkinson's disease, stroke and other maladies.
